Sophronius of Jerusalem, The Miracles of Saints Cyrus and John, 42

Summary:

There was a certain Egyptian, Eugenios, who was a surveyor. He suffered from dropsy. His belly was terribly swollen, so that he began to resemble an enormous serpent. The physicians were helpless, so he went to the sanctuary of Cyrus and John. The same night that followed the day of his arrival, the saints appeared to him in a dream, when he was sleeping by their tomb. They told him to go to the latrine immediately and expel all the humours that had accumulated in his intestines. Saying this, they touched his belly to throw the disease out. While they were operating, three women cried out to them that they had stayed in the sanctuary for a year without obtaining healing for their diseases. The martyrs turned to the women and replied that Christ was the master of sanctity and not they themselves. When Eugenios awoke, he ran to the latrine and expelled all the humours. His body was restored to its previous size. He thus regained his health quickly, and sang hymns to honour the martyrs.
