Lombard charter recording a dispute between the bishops of Siena and Arezzo (central Italy), concerning rural churches dedicated to *Mary (Mother of Christ, S00033), *Ansanus (martyr of Siena, S01345), *John (probably the Baptist, S00020), *Restituta (probably the virgin and martyr of Africa, S02765) and *Gervasius (martyr of Milan, S00313). Written in Latin, probably at Siena, c. 650.

Int(entio) stetit inter ui(rum) b(eatissimum) Mauro Senense ciuitatis episcopum et idem beatissimum Seruandum Aritinę ciuitatis episcopum. intentionem quam a iure uidebantur de ecclesia uel plebe eorum, id est: Sanctę Marię ***, et alia ecclesia Sancti Amsani, tertia ecclesia Sancti Iohannis in ***, quarta Sanctę Restitutę, quinta Sancti Geruasii [...]

'A matter arose between these most blessed men: Bishop Maurus of the city of Siena, and Bishop Servandus of the city of Arezzo. The dispute was seen to concern the rights to their churches or
pievi, that is: the church of Saint Mary...; next, the church of Saint Ansanus; third, the church of Saint John in...; fourth, that of Saint Restituta; fifth, that of Saint Gervasius...'

Discussion

Schiaperelli tentatively identifies three of the named churches as S. Maria in Pacina, S. Ansano in Dofana, and S. Giovanni in Vescona.
