'The Fifteenth Council of Toledo, the acts of 61 bishops
In the first year of the most serene and orthodox king Egica, on the fifth day before the Ides of May in the year 726 of the era [= 11 May AD 688], the bishops of all Hispania and Gaul gathered in the city of Toledo in the praetorian church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. When all had taken their seats, and mutual love was diffused in the presence of each, and when the praises of God were recited with alternating voices, the most serene King Egica came, exalted in the calm majesty of devotion and praiseworthy by the inclination of his head. Finding himself in the midst of the pontiffs, he threw himself on the ground and commended himself to the prayers of the priests of God.'

The Fifteenth Council of Toledo opened on 11 May 688 during the reign of King Egica (687-702). It dealt mainly with Christological issues because the Fourteenth Council of Toledo in 684 that originally discussed them was only attended by 16 bishops, all from the province Carthaginensis. On the Christological controversy in Spain, see Murphy 1951.Discussion
The Twelfth (in 681, E07462), Thirteenth (in 683, E07482), and Sixteenth Council of Toledo (in 693, E07486) also took place in the church of the Apostles in Toledo.Bibliography
