E02136Gregory of Tours, in his Histories (5.14), tells of how, in 577, Merovech joined Guntram Boso in sanctuary at the church in Tours of *Martin (ascetic and bishop of Tours, ob. 397, S00050); how King Chilperic sought to have him expelled; how both Merovech and Chilperic sought (by different means) answers from Martin about the future, while Guntram Boso consulted a soothsayer; and how, after leaving Tours, Merovech sought sanctuary in the church of *Germanus (bishop of Auxerre, ob. 448, S00455) in Auxerre (central Gaul). E02405Gregory of Tours, in his Histories (10.31), records that Iniuriosus, the fifteenth bishop of Tours (bishop 529-546), completed the church of *Mary (Mother of Christ, S00033) in Tours, and that in his time the church of *Germanus (bishop of Auxerre, ob. 448, S00455) at Saint-Germain-sur-Vienne in the Touraine was constructed. E02606Gregory of Tours, in his Glory of the Confessors (40), recounts how Nunninus, a tribune from Clermont, violently detached a small piece of the tomb of *Germanus (bishop of Auxerre, ob. c. 448, S00455) in Auxerre (central Gaul) and was paralysed by the saint, but was released, after vowing to deposit the relic in a church and to celebrate Germanus' annual feast. Gregory and Bishop Avitus of Clermont visited the church (at vicus Musciacas, in the Auvergne, central Gaul) and experienced a miraculous fragrance of lilies and roses.
